Abstract:This study aims to portray the changing perception of women with the Ottoman modernization with the movement from the discourse of the Demet and Genç Kadın magazines. For this purpose, the masculine and ideological sentiments of the discourse are deciphered by using the method of critical discourse analysis in the study. The study, which aims to define the present perception of femininity in the period of 1908-1919 through the established gender roles, not only achieves the knowledge femininity but also considers the current knowledge in the context of power-discourse relation. The study consists of three main parts. The first part feminism as a political and intellectual theory; the concept of feminism, the history of feminism and the heading of conflicting feminisms. The second part is Ottoman women's movement; Tanzimat and II. Constitutional Period it is handled as and the perception of femininity is also included in the currents of ideas. The approach of the present ideas to women is tried to be examined with the motives of "acceptable women", "new women", "national women". In the third chapter, which contains the original part of the work, the articles in the Demet and Genç Kadın magazines are analyzed by the method of critical discourse analysis under the titles of woman-motherhood, woman-fashion, woman-education, woman-morality, woman-progression and woman-modernization.
