Özet:
In this study, 1 00 mg/kg of benzene - known as a toxic and carcinogenic
agent commonly used in industry - was intraperitonally administered to Rat
rattus norvegicus rats. 0, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 and 64 hours later, its effects on
the percentage of glycogen level on the animals' liver and muscle tissues and
blood glucose level were examined. In the periods of experiment, an increase in
the glycogen level in both muscles and liver depending on nutrition was
observed in both control and experimental groups. However, due to the effect of
benzene, noticeable increases and decreases in both tissues were observed. In
the 64th hour, the differences occurring due to the effect of benzene
disappeared. Increases and decreases in the blood glycogen level, observed in
male and female animals, were not found rational except for some periods of
experiment. The results prove that benzene affects the glycogen level in both
liver and muscles. Key words: Benzene, Glycogen, Rat
