Abstract:

This thesis aims to evaluate Sartre's thoughts on the concept of "freedom and responsibility" which has an important place in his philosophy. Since there is no god according to Sartre, he says that man whom Sartre sees as a "being condemned to be free" is responsible for all his behaviors. This thesis is based on the question of whether Sartre's concept of responsibility, which he uses so broadly, eliminates the problem of priority in our responsibilities. The first part of the thesis is on this problematic after making an introduction to Sartre's philosophy in the context of Existentialism. The second part covers the concept of freedom especially in relation to the concepts of being and nothingness. The last section focuses on the concept of responsibility in relation to the concept of freedom. As a result, Sartre's understanding of responsibility will be tried to be criticized by making a distinction between "being responsible" and "feeling responsible".
