Özet:
Lung cancer is still a very significant health problem and there is not enough success in its treatment despite new chemotherapy regimens. Therefore, novel treatment approaches are required for better management for lung cancer patients. The aim of this study is to determine the anticancer activity of Pelargonium quercetorum extract on lung cancer cell lines. For this purpose, MTT and ATP cell viability tests are utilized to determine in vitro cytotoxicity. M30 and M65-antigen methods are used to determine the cell death mechanism (apoptosis/necrosis) of cytotoxic effects of Pelargonium quercetorum extract on cells. Presence of apoptosis is demonstrated by Annexin-V and Hoechst 33342 staining methods with flurescence microscope. Furthermore, results are supported with Western blot method. In conclusion, it has been determined that Pelargonium quercetorum extract has an cytotoxic effect on cells and inducing secondary necrosis/ late stage of apoptosis. In conclusion there is need for further analyses to determine the active ingredient and the prediction of usage of extract as a complementary approach in the treatment of cancer.
