The aim of this study is to analyze the spatial distribution and directional tendencies of historical and cultural heritage sites and workplaces in Istanbul within a geographical framework. In this context, the distribution of historical-cultural heritage areas, workplaces, and accommodation facilities was examined, and their spatial patterns were identified using mean center and standard deviational ellipse analyses. The analysis was conducted at the district scale, enabling the identification of spatial orientation, concentration, and dispersion characteristics of the three analytical units. The findings indicate that tourism functions as a significant spatial determinant in the locational distribution of workplaces, while accessibility constitutes another major factor shaping spatial organization. The spatial distribution and diffusion of accommodation facilities, which were evaluated separately from other workplaces, are largely influenced by commercial land-use patterns and transportation networks. The standard deviational ellipses of all analytical units exhibit a predominant east-west orientation. This pattern is influenced by the urban development of the study field. The mean centers and standard deviational ellipses located near the bosphorus are also distributed along the Marmara and Black Sea coastlines. This peripheral spatial pattern indicates the presence of coastal-based activities that help redistribution of tourism-related pressures away from the historical core areas.
