Abstract

Reactive power plays a crucial role in power systems so that it can enhance performance, reliability and efficiency of the system in a positive way. In this study, the some recent techniques called Salp Swarm, Whale Optimization and Yin-Yang-pair Optimization algorithms are proposed to demonstrate their applicability and success in solving optimal reactive power dispatch (ORPD) problems for real power transmission loss. Metaheuristic algorithms are used for the purpose of determining the control variable settings. The IEEE 14 and 30 -bus systems are implemented as the test systems to analyze the algorithms' performances. The obtained results indicate that the used algorithms are effective frameworks in solving ORPD problems in the electrical power systems.
