The modem graduate education in the field of veterinary medicine was laid in Turkey in the 1930s. In addition to graduate education began to give for Doctor of Philosophy degree in the only veterinary school of that time which was located in Ankara, specialized veterinary education was also initiated in the 1940s at some research establishments affiliated to the Ministry of Agriculture. At the beginning of 1980s, from one hand specialized education was terminated, on the other hand all graduate studies in the field of health sciences including veterinary medicine were included in graduate schools of health sciences established within universities within the scope of the Higher Education Law.
