After the proclamation of the Republic, an education mobilization was initiated for the adult population outside of formal education. The priority of the rulers of the period was to teach the broad masses of the people to read and write with the new Turkish letters. For this purpose, National Schools were opened in Ankara and many parts of the country. Public Reading Rooms have been created for the trainees studying in these schools to improve themselves. Village Yacht Schools were included in the education curriculum in order to educate the population of education age living in rural areas but not having a school. People’s Houses were established to increase the cultural level of adults and to achieve a modern individual identity. Ankara People’s House has achieved significant success in line with this purpose with events such as conferences, courses, film screenings, etc. for the academic field and fine arts. The Republican People’s Party administration, formal education institutions and vocational training schools affiliated to various proxies in Ankara, and non-governmental organizations such as societies, unions, etc. operating in the city supported non-formal education with the training they provided and the activities they organized. Ankara Radio, national and local press also played an intermediary role in these activities.
