V. BALKAN AGRICULTURE CONGRESS, 20-23 SEPTEMBER, EDİRNE, TÜRKİYE, Edirne, Turkey, 20 - 23 September 2023, pp.10-15
Plants are the primary
source of food, can feed world’s exploding population by
correct management of plant agriculture. Agriculture contributes over 20 percent of gross national product. Nearly
30% of the global population equivalent to 2.4 billion people did not have
constant access to food. World hunger levels increases every year. Due to the increasing need for nutrients and
decreasing natural resources. we need better and more effective methods for
food production.
Plant
Biotechnology is use of tissue culture and genetic engineering techniques to
produce genetically modified plants that exhibit new or improved desirable
characteristics The culture of plant seeds, organs, explants, tissues, cells,
or protoplasts for regeneration of functional plants on nutrient media under
sterile conditions called as plant tissue culture. The four main sectors in which
plant tissue culture finds application. These are; Agriculture, Food Colorants
and Healthy Food Ingredients, Environmental and Waste Management Technology and
Health. Tissue culture techniques, which
provided the tools for the introduction of genetic information into plant cells
is important for plant biotechnology. One of the most promising methods of
producing proteins and other medicinal substances, such as antibodies and
vaccines, is the use of transgenic plant. Transgenic plants represent an
economical alternative to fermentation-based production systems. Plant-made
vaccines or antibodies re especially striking, as plants are free of human
diseases, thus reducing screening costs for viruses and bacterial toxins.
