Free microvascular transfer of the second metatarsophalangeal joint was performed for the treatment of temporomandibular joint ankylosis in a 15-year-old male patient. The result is excellent in one-year follow-up. The technique seems to be a good alternative to the problem in selected patients. (C) 1998 Wiley-Liss, Inc.
