Özet

Accelerated flex fatigue testing has been carried out on gel-spun ultra-high modulus, highperformance polyethylene (HPPE) fibres, under the influence of a fixed applied tension, and over the temperature range 20-110 degrees C, In addition to measurements of fatigue lifetime, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to investigate the failure morphology. The study concluded that under the conditions of testing, fatigue lifetime is inversely related to temperature, The underlying mode of failure is that of axial splitting, but detailed differences in fracture morphology occur at increased temperatures of testing.
