Changes in fibrinolytic activity (FA) were investigated and followed for 4 hours after brief exhaustive maximal exercise in sedentary males. Sixteen volunteer, healthy. nonsmoking subjects aged 23.0±3.9 (19-30) performed a maximal cycling exercise to exhaustion. Euglobulin lysis time (ELT), fibrin plate lysis area (FPLA). fibrinogen (F). tissuetype plasminogen activator (tPA). pH and lactate (L) concentrations in plasma were measured before, immediately, and one and four hours after the exercise. The results of FPLA and tPA increased immediately (pcO.OOI) and 1 hour after the exercise, vvhereas they decreased at the 4t.h hour of the revovery period. ELT decreased immediately and 1 hour after the exercise (pcO.OOI) and increased at the 4th hour of the recovery period. Hovvever, F values did not chaııge significantly during the same period. Thus FA increased follovving brief exhaustive maxirnal exercise and corıtinued to increase 1 hour after the completion of exercise, but it was inhibited in the late recovery period.
