Özet

The purpose of this study is to discuss the effects of information and mass communication technologies. Technology, which affects every part of our lives, is accepted as an instrument used for legitimating and control mechanism over the people. Powerful groups use the mass communication technologies with the help of some tactics as a legitimating and control instrument to follow people, to control their activities, to determine their behavior and to manipulate them. People have some contradiction and complexity related to varying characteristics of the world. It is claimed that information and communication technologies give more freedom to people than the past. On the contrary, these technologies make person into a slave with some imposition. Communication technologies are used for setting up hegemony over the mass. It is realized that modern people do not restrict and not direct the technology. People who feel indefensible themselves against technology, decide to profit from advantages of technology. The most important finding of this study is the usage of mass communication technologies as a legitimating and control mechanisms will keep on in the future.
