Mechanisms of psychobiotic effect and gut microbiota

Özet

In these years, there is an increasing interest in food supplements containing probiotics, prebiotics and psychobiotics, which are thought to be beneficial in the treatment of mental disorders. Studies on psychobiotics that provide potential alternative solutions to antipsychotic drugs, which use in conditions such as anxiety, behavioral disorders or stress conditions are promising. The metabolites consists of fermentation in the gastrointestinal tract provide physical and mental benefits through the microbiota-gut-brain axis and allow different approaches in the treatment of psychiatric disorders. In this study, it is aimed to present compiled researches about health benefits on psychobiotics and explain the interaction mechanisms between the gut microbiota and the brain.
