3rd International Walnut Congress, ALCOBACA, Portugal, 13 - 16 June 1995, pp.435-438
Turkey is one of the most important countries in the world in what concerns walnut production. This important role is due to Anatolia being a germplasm center, and to its suitable ecological conditions. It is very difficult to find orchards established using standard cultivars because of the fact that the walnuts have been grown from seed up to the present, despite the large quantity produced. However the importance of propagation by grafting and budding is being realized in recent years, and as a result the orchards established by standard cultivars are becoming increasingly widespread. These standard walnut orchards are generally planted with cultivars selected in Turkey.
