Özet

People need to feel that their success, either in their work-lives or in a field, is both meaningful and beneficial. After a while, if they are not satisfied with the benefits of their success, people feel sad and disappointed and this leads to burnout. Burnout can be studied in three sub-dimensions which are efficacy, desensitization and emotional burnout. The purpose of the present study is to investigate burnout levels of teacher trainees on cynicism, exhaustion and efficacy according to sex, grade, part time job, high school graduation, anxiety, the musical instrument they play, term cumulative and course schedule. The sample of the study was 139 teacher trainees at the department of music education. The study was designed as a descriptive one. To collect data, both Maslach Burnout Inventory and a Personal Information Form were used. For the statistical analysis of the data, Mann Whitney-U was used. As a result, it is observed that teacher trainees have high levels of burnout due to some variables. According to the research results, when the burnout levels of the students are analyzed, it is found out that there is no meaningful difference between the sex and the high schools that students graduate from, whereas students with low academic grade-point averages experience burnout in desensitization sub-dimension. It is also found out that students with more course load experience a more intense burnout. In addition that, it is found out that students’ grades, the instruments they play and whether they have a part-time job or not are other factors that affect their burnout levels.
