Abstract

A magnetic stirrer/heater is one of the most frequently used devices in laboratories. In this article, a scrapped magnetic heater/stirrer was software-controlled and recycled using an Arduino microcontroller. This device used a relay for temperature control and a metal-oxide semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET) for speed control. The boiling points of various liquids (water, isopropyl alcohol, methanol and acetone) were tested with the device and it was determined that the results obtained were consistent with the results of the literature. It has been observed that the device can successfully control the solution temperature values entered into the system with an accuracy of approximately ± 3 degrees. In addition, it was seen that with such a simple recycling process, both natural resources can be saved and the country's economy can be contributed.
