Researcher Ikigai: Power of Deep Purpose

Özet
Abstract – The world inhabited by these digital generations is hyperconnected, screen-centric and oft-times immersive, jostling alongside technologies in the metaverse, which are rapidly changing and developing exponentially. In the midst of this, the authors can see that maintaining researcher humanity and therefore personal and professional meaning and purpose (or ikigai) seems critical. For us, this is the unique purpose of each researcher. It encapsulates their personal passion, mission and vocation as individual researchers as they navigate a research terrain occupied by living and non-living entities. In order to consider researcher ikigai from a posthumanist standpoint, the authors turn to design thinking and the more recent Planet-centric Innovation model. The authors argue that researcher ikigai refers to the disposition of the researcher, which the authors believe must be taught and not caught. With this in mind, the authors present a case study from Physical Education Teacher Education to show how to teach researcher ikigai, and the authors show how the researcher ikigai might feed into a research project design using the planet-centric innovation schematic.
