Radial riveting production method is frequently used especially in the automotive industry. When parts made of different or the same materials are connected with rivets, it is not possible to separate them without damaging related parts or destruction of the joint. In the optimal riveting process, the value of the riveting pressure applied by the machine on the rivet and the duration of the application are of great importance. Within this study an experimental approach used to determine process parameters to control the process outputs in a new designed pneumatic riveting machine. The method of obtaining these parameters and the experimental observed values were evaluated and considered for the first time in the riveting related literature. In this paper, the planned experiments and its results for a new radial riveting machine, which was recently designed and manufactured, were discussed. Through planned experiments based on a full factorial experimental design approach, the riveting pressure and the duration values required for an optimal head formation were determined. Verification tests have also been conducted to validate these specified values.
