The main purpose of this study was to examine the problems and issues concerning teaching mathematics in rural areas as perceived by classroom teachers. Data were collected from 142 primary school teachers who were working in rural areas of Günyüzü, Sivrihisar, Mihali{dotless}ççi{dotless}k, Beylikova and Han in the province Eskiflehir. A new measure, the Teaching Mathematics in Rural Areas Questionnaire, was used to measure issues that classroom teachers face in teaching mathematics. Descriptive statistics and t-test were performed. The results of study indicate that the major issue teaching mathematics in the rural areas was lack of rural education policies, rural centered curriculum unrecogni-zing of rural communities and realities.
