Abstract

In this study, Harris hawks optimization (HHO) algorithm has been proposed as a novel meta-heuristic algorithm to achieve optimal parameters of a PID controller adopted for aircraft pitch control system. To evaluate the performance of the proposed approach, comparative analyses have been performed using statistical analysis along with time and frequency domain analyses. Other recent and effective meta-heuristic algorithms based PID controllers such as salp swarm algorithm (SSA) tuned and atom search optimization (ASO) algorithm tuned PID controllers were chosen for comparison to verify the effectiveness of HHO tuned PID controller. The comparisons have confirmed the better performance of the proposed HHO tuned PID controller over other mechanisms for controlling the pitch angle of an aircraft.
