MITTEILUNGEN DER DEUTSCHEN ORIENT-GESELLSCHAFT ZU BERLIN, cilt.156, ss.105-152, 2024 (Hakemli Dergi)
The site of Havuz-Aslantaş (Province of Sivas, Türkiye) has been known
since 1928 due to the discovery of a large Neo-Hittite lion figurine made of
basalt, but the location has not been investigated more thoroughly until now.
A new research project launched in 2022 aims to explore the archaeologically
exceptional site of Havuz-Aslantaş in its geographical and in terms of
its settlement history. After the first two campaigns, it became clear that in
this respect the Karaseki basalt plateau, on which the settlement of Havuz-
Aslantaş is located, had a prominent position not only geologically and
geographically, but also in terms of settlement history. In order to explore
the significance of the settlement and the plateau especially in the Iron Age,
the focus is extended to the entire basin of Kangal, which, due to its location,
lies at a hitherto little explored but very exciting interface between the
Neo-Hittite states to the south, Phrygia to the west and Urartu to the east.
