Abstract

In all farm animal species, genetic control of transferrins is by the system of multiple codominant autosomal alleles. Many studies have been conducted on transferrin polymorphism in the blood of numerous goat breeds (Barbancho et al., 1984; Bhat, 1987; Tunon et al., 1987). Number of the alleles in transferrin Turkish native goat, breeds were reported by Elmaci and Asal (1998), Canatan and Boztepe (2000), Elmaci et al., (2001), Turkey has few native breeds of goat, which are Hair goat, Angora goat and Kilis goat. The Hair goat is a major breed in Turkey. Antalya region is the most intensive region in terms of Hair goat breeding. The present paper is concerned with the genetic variation of transferrin of Turkish hair goats in the Antalya region.
