Presently, the application of nitrogen as an alloying and modifying element in alloys is extending. High nitrogen steels (HNS) are finding increased application in many different branches of industry. In the present study we propose a new approach to the problem of calculating the nitrogen solubility in HNS and alloys, obtained under high pressures, by generalising the widely used Wagner thermodynamic model, The interaction parameters of the generalised Wagner model are determined with respect to a more relevant reference state for the solvent: instead of pure solvent we consider a given grade of a complex alloy as a reference state, (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V.
