Herpes viruses are large complex DNA viruses that can be divided into two different variants; herpes simplex virus (HSV) 1 and 2. A wide spectrum of disease states has been attributed to infection with HSV. We report here a case of fatal hepatitis secondary to HSV infection and discuss the presumed mechanisms and pathology of the disease, diagnostic methods and treatment.
