Blood samples taken from the jugular vein of 100 hair goats were analysed for erythrocyte potassium (Ke), erythrocyte sodium (Nae), plasma potassium (Kp) plasma sodium (Nap) and hematocrit (PCV). The existence of polymorphism for erythrocyte potassium (Ke) is confirmed in Turkish male hair goats. Two distinct K types were found low (LK) and high (HK); erythrocyte potassium were 9.00 and 48.51 mmol/l, respectively. The HK type was predominating and the frequencies of potassium types LK and HK were 0.03 and 0.97, respectively. The mean Nae and Ke concentrations differed significantly (p<0.01) between LK and HK animals. There was negative correlation between Ke and Nae, while positive correlation between Nae and PCV was found.
