Özet

Iodine deficiency increases iodine uptake of the thyroid gland and the incidence of goiter. Therefore, mutagenic effects and chromosomal aberrations are expected if exposure to radioactive iodine occurs in an area of endemic iodine deficiency. In this investigation, we aimed to determine whether or not there is any mutagenic chromosomal damage in patients with goiter. Sister chromatid exchange (SCE) method was used as a cytogenetic investigation to observe the Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) damage of goiter patients at the chromosomal level.
