Özet:

Listening skill could be considered as the most substantial or challenging of four language skills whilst the learning and teaching of a foreign language (Cheung, 2010). Therefore, this research study aimed at constituting an awareness on EFL teachers in terms of their listening teaching performance and their metacognition in listening instruction. In this manner, EFL teachers were exposed to a training on strategic listening. Specifically, the following research questions were reflected: 1. What strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats do you feel you have in terms of teaching listening skill? 2. What are your views and perceptions on teaching listening skill? 3 & 7. What is the participants’ initial and final level of metacognitive awareness in listening? 4. What are participants’ views and perception on the related listening strategy at the end of each treatment session? 5. What concerns do the participant teachers mainly discuss through the interactional methodology sessions before each treatment? 6. What are your views and perceptions on teaching listening skill after the listening instruction training?. Sixteen EFL instructors constituted the participants of this study. Data collection tools were identified as a needs assessment through a SWOT analysis, written reflections before and after treatment, discussion notes by the researcher and metacognitive awareness in listening questionnaire by Vandergrift et al. (2006). Participants' responses to all data collection instruments specified findings which designated that there has been an improvement in their metacognitive awareness in listening. vii Key words: Listening comprehension, Metacognitive awareness, Self-regulation, Reflection in listening, Listening strategy
