Proje Özeti
·
Summary
To
reduce the cost, energy consumption, and CO2 emission of cement
production, grinding aids (GA) are used during clinker grinding. Preliminary
studies showed that the modification process of commercial GA could be improved
both the grinding performance and properties of cementitious system. In
addition, GA increased the hydration kinetics by affecting cement particle size
distribution and the morphology of the hydration products. In this context,
within the scope of the proposed project;
·
It is aimed to increase the
grindability of commercial GAs by modifying them with various organic acids and
to increase the performance of cementitious systems in terms of fresh,
rheological, and hardened properties. For this purpose, the three most efficient GAs
(TIPA, DEG, and DEIPA) selected from the preliminary study will be modified
with three organic acids to obtain a total of 9 modified GAs. Thus, a total of
12 GA will be used in 0.025%, 0.05%, and 0.1% dosage by total weight of clinker
and gypsum. Accordingly, a total of 37
cements will be produced, including control cement without GA. The grinding performance, greenhouse gas
emission, and carbon footprint of the GAs will be compared. In addition, with
the behavior of 37 cements in terms of degree of hydration, the amount and
morphology of hydration products, setting time, rheological parameters, PCE
requirement, PCE adsorption capacity, consistency retention, water absorption
and compressive strength will be examined. The results will be evaluated with
the help of statistical analysis to select the most efficient modification method
for each GA.
·
Polycarboxylate ether (PCE)
based GA with optimal chemical structure (anionic/non-ionic ratio, main chain
length, and side chain length) in terms of grinding efficiency and properties
of cementitious systems will be synthesized. The synthesized
additives, grinding performance of PCE-based GAs, and their effect on the fresh
state, rheological, and hardened properties of cementitious systems will be
examined. The most efficient PCE-based GA will be selected by evaluating the
experimental data with the help of statistical analysis.
·
A new generation PCE-based
modified GA will be synthesized by combining PCE-based GA with optimal chemical
structure and commercial GA. A new generation of
PCE-based modified GA will be synthesized by re-modifying three commercial GAs
(TIPA, DEG, and DEIPA) with the selected PCE-based GA. The grinding performance
of PCE-based modified GAs and their effect on the fresh state, rheological and
hardened state properties of cementitious systems will be examined.
·
The interaction of
commercial GA, modified GA, and PCE-based modified GA with blended cements containing
various pozzolans (two Class F fly ashes and two blast furnace slags) with
different chemical properties will be investigated. The fresh and
rheological properties of blended cements produced with commercial three GAs,
three modified GAs, and three PCE-based modified GAs and control cement will be
determined. In this way, the performance
of each GA used in various ratios in pozzolan-substituted cementitious systems
will be examined in detail. According to the statistical analysis, the most
suitable GA will be selected for the last stage of the project.
·
Finally, the durability of
cementitious systems produced with the selected GA will be investigated. It is
predicted that GA will increase the durability performance of cementitious
systems because it affects the particle size distribution of cement, and the
amount and morphology of hydration products. The effect of the most efficient
GA on the sulfate resistance, carbonation depth, freeze-thaw resistance, and
drying shrinkage behavior of cementitious systems will be examined.
When all stages are evaluated, the project will both contribute to the literature in many ways and set an example for the development of a new generation GA for environmentally friendly cement production.
