Abstract:

Bursa coastal areas have been residentail area too many cultures throughout the historical process due to tehir geopolitical importance. Each culture left behind artifacts that would affect coastal architecture, and over time a coastal architectural identity unique to the region emerged. In the approach form sea to city; coastal silhouette formed by coastal structures, natural formations and historical civil architectural examples creat the first impression about the city. However over time the costal architectural identity has changed with many reasons such as policies, natural disasters and technological developments, which are followed according to the conditions of the period. In this thesis, historical processes of Bursa, location of coastal areas and relationship with architectural identity, examples of urban transformation in coastal areas are examined with area work and literture survery methods. The parameters affecting coastal architectural identity, the architectural formality of the sutructers in the coastal skyline and their interaction with other environmental factors have have been revealed and suggestions have been made regarding the improvement of the coastal architectural identity.
