Abstract:Food security is a concept that has an increasing importance. To ensure food security all over the world has become an important target for many international organizations. Food security encompasses many factors from healthy and safe nutrition to political situation in countries; it is also the subject of many disciplines such as sociology and economics. To ensure food security is one of the most important steps for a country on the way to development.Because food security is related to many factors, its existence is hard to determine and cannot be determined by only local efforts. The increasing globalization of world trade causes food security to cease being only a local concept. Changes all over the world, crisis or changing consumption trends started to effect domestic food security.In this light, food security is a hard concept to achieve also hard concept to determine. Thus, the struggles to determine food security with quantitative measure are increasing. To display these methods and to choose the best one for the targets of the researches is one of the most important steps of determining food security.In this research, it is aimed to determine the food security situation in the world an in Turkey by using agricultural production and general economic indicators. The effect of these indicators on food security is examined and the targets for ensuring food security are tried to be set. Also food security concept which has not been able to find its place as an important subject in Turkey has been examined in detail. In addition to this, this study aims to offer a source for new studies on food security in the future.
