Abstract:Abû Hâtim Ahmad b. Hamdân Al-Râzî (322/934-35), worked in the field of Arabic semantics, known as one of the greatest Arabic linguists. He lived during the period when is developing and maturing of the sciences that are based on both of aql (reasoning) and naql (evidences) in the 4th Hijri Century. The linguistic studies in Ebu Hatim's the period of life, the important in terms of Arabic language and literature, have also received a philosophical content. Abu Hatim's titled book "Kitab Al-Zeenah" that is the subject of the thesis provides a foundation for the study of Arabic semantics. A number of information about the semantics has been given in the introduction section of the thesis. Afterwards, it has been mentioned about the general informations regarding linguistic in Ebu Hatim's book entitled 'Kitab Al-Zeenah' in the first chapter of the thesis. Ebu Hatim's importance of Arabic semantic in particular has been demonstrated in the second chapter of the thesis that are analyzed the historical developments of the words in his book. In addition, it has been contently addressed that the position of the semantic subjects of Ebu Hatim's book in the thesis. According to the findings which are obtained from this thesis, it has been determined that the foundations of Arabic semantics can be based until the 4th Hijri Century, even though the semantics a new field in the language studies. Thus, this study provides important data about the historical origins of the Arabic semantics for next generation researchers.
