Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is the structural design and prototype production of a CNC controlled large-scale milling machine with movıng portal. After preparing assembly projects, the equipments needed decided on and this milling machine center was ordered and bought. This type of machines in the market consists approximately 40% of their total weight of the main components made up from the cast iron. However, the machine produced in this project is to contain much higher ratio of cast iron material in its main components. The project is to initialize from conceptual design and defining the technical specifications. And with the lead of this information, the CAD models of the components were drawn. Improvements were applied to CAD designs of the components with the outputs of these calculations. The aim of the calculations was to maintain a high precision machine with high rigidity. Computer-aided desings and computer-aided analysis were repeated several times in order to optimize the machine components. Following the design processes, all the necessary components were controlled for micro and macro porosity problems after casting with a casting and solidification simulation software. Finaly, these machine components were produced with casting.
