Abstract:

This study tries to investigate the information about Christianity given by Muqātil b. Sulayman in his commentary of the Qur’an, al-tafsīr al-Kabīr. After summarizing and classifying the Qur’anic verses about Christianity, this study provides and analyzes the opinions and approach of Mukātil b. Sulayman on Christians and Christianity. In addition, it deals with the opinions of other Muslim exegetes and the narrations of the New Testament when it is necessary. In doing so, it aims to show the similarities and differences among different sources. First chapter contains information about the Family of al-Imrān, Holy Mary, the birth of Jesus Christ, his prophethood, messages and miracles. The second chapter scrutinize the controversial themes such as the death of Christ, his ascension, his deification and his second coming in a comparative way.
