Quercus ithaburensis Dence in type2 diabetic rats: Effects on the oxidative and antioxidative systems

Abstract:

Nowadays, Quercus ithaburensis Dence plant is one of the most ancient herbal drugs grown in the world, which are gaining popularity as medicaments from time immemorial within Mediterranean countries and its extract is rich in natural antioxidants. The current study was designed to test the antioxidative and antidiabetic activities of Quercus ithaburensis Dence plant on hypoglycemic, oxidative–antioxidative systems in streptozotocin-nikotinamit type 2 diabetic rats.Wistar rats were divided into four groups; Control(C), Control+Quercus ithaburensis Dence (C+QID), Diabet (D), Diabet+ Quercus ithaburensis Dence (D+QID).Quercus ithaburensis Dence extract reduced blood glucose, serum total cholesterol, plasma and tissue malondiadeh levels (heart, muscle, liver). Also serum insulin, paraoxonase and arylesterase activities quantitative were significantly increased in the C+ QID, D+QIDgroups. In conclusion, this paper demonstrates that Quercus ithaburensis Dence plant extract manifest antihyperglycemic , antihyperlipidemic effects , reduced the lipid peroxidation process and enhanced the antioxidative defense system in an experimental diabetic model.
