Prunus laurocerasus (Karayemiş) in type 2 diabetic rats: Effects on the oxidative and antioxidative systems

This research investigates the effects of Prunus lausocerasus extract and metformin on blood glucose and oxidant-antioxidant systems at rats which are diabetesed by streptozosin-nikotinamit and type 2. 48 male rats were grouped into 6 randomly; control (K) + Prunus lausocerasus extract + (K+PLE), diabetes (D), diabetes + Prunus lausocerasus extract (D+PLE), diabetes + metformin (D+Metf), diabetes + Prunus lausocerasus extract + metformin (D+PLE+Metf). Apart from control group, in control + Prunus lausocerasus extract group it was observed statically significant decrease at the level of serum triglyceride but also observed a significant increase at the blood glutathione peroxides and erythrocyte superoxide dismutase activities. Apart from diabetes group, diabetes + Prunus lausocerasus extract, diabetes + metformin, diabetes + Prunus lausocerasus extract + metformin groups have a significant decrease at the levels of blood glucose, serum total cholesterol, triglyceride, plasma and tissue malondialdehyde however it is observed an significant increase at serum insulin, blood glutathione peroxides, erythrocyte superoxide dismutase, paraoksonaz and arilesteraz activities. As a result, in this research we found out that Prunus lausocerasus extract and metformin anti-hyperglycemic, anti-hyperlydemic and antioxidant feature and type 2 are protector and inhibitor against oxidative stress occurring in diabetes and they could be used additionally to cure diabetes.
