Investigation of the relationship between digital game addiction, resilience and mindfulness levels of the secondary school students

Abstract:

The main purpose of this study is to investiagate whether there is a significant relationship between secondary school students's digital game addiction, resilience and mindfulness levels. In addition, it was investigated whether digital game addiciton varies according to some socio-demographic variebles. In this study, which was conducted on the basis of the relational screening model, Digital Game Addiction Scale for Children, Child and Youth Resilience Measure, Child and Adolescents Mindfulness Measure and Personal Information Form were used. In the 2018-2019 academic year, 604 students who were studying at secondary schools in Bursa Osmangazi distrisct participated in the study. In the analysis of the data, t-test for unrelated samples, one way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Pearson Moments Multiplication Correlation techniques were used. As a result of the research, digital game addiction and resilience were found to be significantly correlated in the negative direction, digital game addiction and mindfulness were significantly correlated in the negative direction, resilience and mindfulness were significantly correlated in the pozitive direction. In addition, it was found that digital game addiction differed according to gender, parent's togetherness, school success, negative life events, social support perception and gaming tools.
