Factors contributing to future expectations of students; relationship of these factors and their effect on depression and anxiety

Aim of the current study is to investigate the relationship of parental attitude and locus of control factors that are assumed to contribute to the future expectation of university students, and to effect depression and anxiety of students.The sample of the study consisted of 242 students, from Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Faculty of Education and Faculty of Bussiness Administration. A total of 174 female, 95 male Freshman and Senior volunteer students aged betwen 18 and 24 participated in the study. Sociodemographic Data Sheet, Parental Child Rearing Attitudes , Internal-External Locus of Control Scale, Beck Depresion Inventory, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory were administered to the study after informed consent was obtained from the participants. Data were analyzed by using SPSS 13.0.Results of the study show that there is significant correlation between depression, state-trait anxiety and locus of control and parental rearing attitudes. There is also significant correlation between depression , state-trait anxiety and expectancy that one will get a job after graduation. Participants had plans for after garduation, had optimistic expectations for job opportunities, thinking that they would be able to get a job related to their unergraduate education, and they believed that they would get what they deserved in terms of career achievements.
