Student misbehaviours the primary teachers encounter in the classroom and the methods they use to cope with them

Abstract:

We can define every behaviour which spoils the regularity of the classroom and prevents the aims to be reached as a “misbehaviour”. These attidutes make it difficult to give education and even causes the young teachers to lose enthusiasm for teaching. The aim of this research was to investigate the frequency of the students’ unwanted behaviours that the teachers on the first grade duty of primary schools come across, and to clarify the methods they use to manage successfully. The study was materialized in surveillance model. Primary teachers who are on duty in primary schools, which exist in centre districts in Bursa, form the cosmos of this investigation. In this research, the questionnary that had been used before in master thesis which mentions about “Student misbehaviours that classroom teachers confront and the ways they use to cope with them” which was prepared by Keskin (2002) has been reorganized for data collection. In the study the opinions of 228 primary teaches were applied.This survey is formed in three parts. For the validity and reliability of the survey the points of views of the experts were applied. In order to measure the reliability of the survey “Cronbah Alpha” is used and coefficient of the survey is found as “a=0,981” In the survey “scale with five degrees” was used, in the analysis of the data , the frequency (f) , percentage (%), arithmetic medium, Pearson chi-square, independent samples “t” test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Turkey HSD (Tukey's Honestly Significant Difference Test) comparative analysis tests were benefitted from. At the end of the study, the dimension of the influence of the student misbehaviour in the education process, which treatments were come across mostly, which approaches the teacher benefit to cope with the behaviours, their proffesion seniority, their sex, or the impact of the department from which they graduated to the methods they use were determined. Furthermore, whether the social- economical status of the students, the total number of classrooom or their sexes differentiate in students’ attidutes were searched and defined.
