Abstract:Ancient Nicaea had been home to many civilizations by virtue of its location. One of those civilizations was The Roman Empire. As enlarging the borders of the empire, so the minted coins had spread on a large area. Nicaea had a position as a center of gathering coins that minted at different regions due to be located in passing route of the East and the West. Many Roman coins had been found in the trenches of underwater basilica discovered in 2014 at the shoreline of İznik Lake. Much of these coins belong to Late Roman period and are from different mints at different regions. The point of the thesis is to examine the coins relatedly the history of the basilica structure by cataloging the coins together in the light of archaeological data.
