Abstract:

In this work, the relations between Quantum Chemistry and Group Theory are discussed. The applications of Group Theory in Quantum Chemistry is one of the many applications of Quantum Chemistry in Mathematics. In this thesis, the notion of symmetry is defined starting with molecular symmetry, and symmetry elements and operations are classified. The symmetry properties of functions are studied algebraically by means of rotation groups, symmetry groups and direct product groups.
