Abstract:

In this study, an experimental work is presented which determines the effects of fancy yarn usage on knitted fabric performance. Chenille and macaroni fancy yarns having 3 Nm yarn number are produced with four different raw materials (acrilic, polyester, cotton and viscose). These fancy yarns are knitted on flat knitting machine in R-L knit structure. Woven fabrics were produced by the same yarns and they were compared with knitted fabrics. In order to determine the effects of the factors, measured properties of the yarn and fabrics are evaluated by SPSS statistical program. All test results are assessed at a confidence level of at least 95% (at most 5% significance level). The yarn characteristics investigated in this study are; boiled water shrinkage, yarn abrasion resistance, breaking strength and bending rigidity. The fabric characteristics investigated in this study are; dimensional properties, abrasion resistance,bursting resistance, breaking strength and bending rigidity.
