Abstract:

In this study, the usability of sodium borohydride (NaBH4) which is one of the most important boron compounds, in textile discharge printing was investigated. The study was performed in three steps. In the first step of the study, the effect of the discharging agent concentration on dischargeability was investigated. In the second step, the effect of the fixation time on the white discharge printings with sodium borohydride was investigated. Then in the last step, the usability of sodium borohydride in coloured vat discharge printings was investigated.Percentage of reflectance, K/S and relative rate of white dischargeability values achieved from printings made with sodium formaldehyde sulphoxylate and sodium borohydride were compared. In the second and the last steps effects of the discharge printing method on elongation and elastic recovery of the printed fabrics were also examined. As a result, it was found that sodium borohydride can be used in white discharge printings of fabrics dyed with some reactive dyes, but it can't be used in technically coloured vat discharge printings.
