Abstract:

The purpose of this research is to find out how the first stage primary school teachers deal with the undesired student behaviour, which technics they use to change and arrange these undesired attitudes. On the other side the research aims to determine what the first stage primary students think about their teachers style of using these technics. Lastly, it aims to state the differences among the teachers and the students answers. The undesired behaviours of students is a fact which mostly occurs and prevents the theacher to theach and the other students to study. The teachers spend time and energie to fight with that undesired behaviours. The behaviour changing technics is a method to come over with that kind of problems which occur in nearly every kind of class.From that point of view this research aims to examine how the teachers of the first stage primary school students (4. and 5. class) are going to put these behaviour changing technics into practice. At the same time this research aims to find out the differences of the opinions of the teachers and their students on the behaviour changing models. The research was carried out in the spring semester of the 2002-2003 school year on 304, 4. and 5. class primary school students and 90 teachers of 19 central schools of the Nilüfer district of Bursa. The relaible variables came from 90 teachers and 300 students. The data collection process came in existence with the application of a questionnaire which was designed for taking information on behaviour changing technics. The revised type of the "students undesired behaviours changing technics" questionnaire was put into practice to the students to get their views of their teachers teaching and classroom management ways.First of all to prepare the measurement style 185 items were writen but these were reduced to 120 with the consultation of specialists. With a pilot study these 120 items were applied to 50 teachers and their analysis were made with the help of SPSS. As a result a measure of 5 choice Likert type whose confidence is 0.88 (Cronbach Alpha) is constituted. From the result of the analysis it is determined that there is a difference between the behaviour changing technics which the teachers stated that they apply and the students views of the behaviour changing technics of their teachers.
