Abstract:This research is intended for revealing the contributions made by composers of the Romantic period to the flute literature and identifying the flute works of the Romantic Period. The problem sentence of the research is determined as “What are the flute works of composers of the romantic period? What are the reflections of these works on today’s music training at institutions providing professional music training at the undergraduate level in our country?” and answers for six sub problems were looked for depending on the problem sentence. Pieces for solo flute, concertos, sonatas and small form of works accompanied by the piano or an orchestra composed for flute and methods and studies in the Romantic period make up the research population. In this context, the literature review method was used, attempts were made at accessing the whole literature and interview methods were benefited from to get information from the experts of the field in this study aimed at identifying the flute works of the Romantic Period. Data obtained by literature review intended for solving the problem were classified and scheduled. Scheduled flute works were evaluated according to criteria such as the type of work and whether it was reproduced by way of publishing. During the interviews, the views of Antonio CASTALDO (Lorenzo Perosi Conservatory, Campobasso, Italy), Deborah KRUZANSKY (Santa Cecile Conservatory, Rome, Italy), Vilma CAMPITELLI (L’Instituto Superiore di Studi Musica ‘G. Brago, Teramo, Italy) and Çiler AKINCI (Dokuz Eylül University School of State Conservatory) were included. As a result of the research, it was identified that flute works of the Romantic period made great contributions to the flute literature with respect to number, that the flute playerscomposers of the period composed many works especially in small forms, that works of the important composers of the period was continuously included in both flute training and in concert programs. Reflection of the flute works of the Romantic period on the flute training of today was identified in the research, suggestions were developed according to the findings obtained from the research.
